Title: FPGA and VHDL for Systems Engineers
Presenter: Gina R. Smith
Registration Link<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fpga-and-vhdl-for-systems-engineers-tickets-198686234877?aff=ebdsoporgprofile>
Abstract:
This course explains basic FPGA (field-programmable gate array) and VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) concepts. FPGA topics of discussion includes its and the associated terminology definitions, manufacturers, technology evolutions, applications, capabilities, architecture(s), and design and device programming options. VHDL and its associated terminology are defined, how it is used to create an FPGA design and programmed into the device are also discussed.
How FPGAs and VHDL concepts are applied and utilized in systems engineering products such as but not limited to proposals, requirements, plans, and procedures are also discussed.
Supplemental Materials
Here is a link to the presenter's first article on the topic. While it is several years old the information is still relevant today. It is very basic, and a good place to start. Some of the information will be covered in the tutorial.

Bio:
Gina R. Smith has been working as an engineer for over 26 years. She has earned an Associate in Applied Science in Electronics Engineering Technology from Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh NC, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Magna Cum laude) from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro NC and Master of Science in Systems Engineering (Honors 4.0 GPA) Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore MD. She has received numerous academic awards, recognitions, and inductions to honor societies. Gina received Northrop Grumman’s Technical Merit Award for her High Voltage Switching Design and Raytheon’s Recognition Award for Outstanding Project Performance.
Her career consists of designing and developing military systems. Some of her designs can be found in the Patriot Missile, Chemical and Biological Protection Systems, Identification Friend or Foe, Transponders, and RADARs. Gina has been involved with FPGAs as a designer, troubleshooting and fixing fielded designs, code reviewer, converting ASIC, ABEL and schematic capture designs to VHDL, overseeing a team of FPGA designers, and creating and teaching FPGA development using VHDL for college courses. Gina has also created and taught systems engineering college courses.
She is an entrepreneur, author, adjunct instructor, real estate investor and when time permits a terrified student pilot. Some of her writings are “The art of FPGA construction” article published by Embedded Systems Design, FPGAs 101 first book published by Elsevier and several eBooks published through Amazon.com<http://Amazon.com>.
Gina splits time between living in Clayton NC and Hanover MD. She enjoys spending time with her daughter, cooking, fishing, and crabbing.
