[FLYER] **NEW COURSE** GCH-205 Global Health Engineering: If you are still looking for a global understanding option to satisfy  Mason core in Spring 2019, Dr. Nathalia Peixoto, Dr. Shani Ross and three other professors in Global Health Engineering are developing an Engineering Global Health course.  It is actually the same GCH 205 Global Health course but incorporates engineering design approaches to develop solutions to global health problems.  Engineering, global health and other students would work on multidisciplinary teams to explore certain global health problems and develop solutions to them.

The HST-Wellman Summer Institute for Biomedical Optics provides undergraduate student participants with research experience in the field of biomedical optics.
Eight undergraduates from all disciplines are accepted each year. Participants are required to attend the entire 10 weeks and must be US citizens or permanent residents. The program provides participants with housing in the Boston area, a $5,000 stipend*, partial travel reimbursement for transportation to and from the Boston area*, and a possible opportunity to present at an NSF conference*.

Research Experience  2019 CNF CTECH KEP PARADIM REU| Deadline 8pm February 13th ,2019| Undergrad
During the summer of 2019,  Cornell NanoScale Science & Technology Facility (CNF), Center for Transportation, Environment & Community Health (CTECH), Keeping the Ezra Promise (KEP), and Platform for the Accelerated Realization, Analysis, and Discovery of Interface Materials (PARADIM) -- will sponsor Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs. Engineering and science students with broad interests across disciplines focusing on nanotechnology are eligible to apply (see restrictions and eligibility requirements below) to the CNF, KEP and PARADIM Programs. In addition, the Center for Transportation, Environment & Community Health (CTECH) is looking for students interested in transportation/civil engineering as it relates to environment and public health.

The chosen undergraduates taking part in this ten-week program will receive hands-on nanoscience and technology experience through research, with applications to bio-engineering, chemistry, electronics, materials science, optics, optoelectronics, physics, and the life sciences -- and transportation/civil engineering!

Dean's Video Contest:  deadline: February 1st 2019
Dean Ken Ball is hosting a video contest this winter. First prize is $500, second is $250. Other prizes will go to some of the best submissions.
Engineering undergraduates, master's students, and PhD candidates¬ can participate alone or in teams. Student teams must include at least one person from Mason Engineering, but students from other schools can participate as well.
Here are the rules:
Submit a video (at most 60 seconds) that either:
Tells a compelling story about an engineering project you did or are doing at Mason; or
Captures viewers' imagination by illustrating how "The Future of Engineering Is Here."
We will announce the winners and award prizes during Engineers Week.
How to enter:
·         Decide which track you will enter
·         Create your video
·         Upload your video on YouTube
·         Submit your video by email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
with the subject line: 60-second video track 1 or 60-second video track 2.
Include the names and program majors of the team members and the YouTube url in the body of the email.
Entries must be received by noon on February 1, 2019. Winners will be announced during Engineer's Week 2019.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®):  Application deadline: TIME Sensitive-Registration capped at 50 students

3MT® is a research communication competition where PhD students present their doctoral research to a non-specialist audience using only one single visual aid-all in three minutes. This exercise encourages graduate students to think about their research from an outsider's perspective, hones their presentation skills, and provides a forum for a cross-disciplinary exchange of exciting ideas and information. 1st Place=$1000, 2nd place=$750, 3rd place=$500
