Hi all!

I am this year's president of our school's chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES). On behalf of this year's BMES committee, I wanted to send this email to encourage you to join this organization and pass on a little more info on how it benefits bioengineers and what we are planning to do this year.

The Biomedical Engineering Society has thousands of bioengineers as registered members. Students get a discounted price of $35. This gets you listed in their online directory (jobs :)), gets you discounted rates to the annual meeting (and other smaller meetings throughout the year), gives you exclusive access to bioengineering specific journals etc. Overall, it is a great way to network with other bioengineers and a great way to stay involved in the bioengineering community. $35 is a great price to pay for all of this, it has many benefits to it. Many of our professors our BMES members as well, I know quite a few of them our going to the annual meeting in October as well.

As an organization, we will focus on ways to find research opportunities and help the community. For example, we will be registering to help 3D print hands using our 3D printer for children. We will also be working on reaching out to schools to do a short project relating to bioengineering. It is the executive committee's hope to have businesses and faculty come share with you what they are doing within the department and explain the best ways to find research opportunities. We also hope to work with OSCAR to help find paid research opportunities on campus. Starting out with a new faculty advisor and new executive board we are really looking to get your feedback on what you would like to see as well.

It is highly encouraged that all BioE students (freshman all the way up to graduate students) join BMES this year. Registration can be completed at BMES.org.
