This is to inform you about ECE530 Sensor Engineering course offering in Fall’17. The course format has been changed! This semester, it includes several in-class labs to be run by course instructor and students. These lab exercises will focus on practical aspects of sensor design, construction, and testing. We will also look at sensor design and sensor technology for small satellites. A small individual or team project is included in course schedule, and if someone is interested it can involve a simple sensor(s) for a CubeSat.

This course can be taken by UG students and is qualified as an EE and CpE elective.

Catalog Description:  Fundamentals of sensor characteristics and transfer functions, sensor circuits and interfacing, sensor noise and protection methods. Studies of different methods used in sensing position, motion, acceleration, force, humidity, temperature, chemicals, etc., followed by an analysis of specific sensor designs.



Textbook: Jacob Fraden, Handbook of Modern Sensors, Springer 2010, 4th Ed. This textbook is available for free in an electronic format from the GMU e-library or through an Internet search.
