Hello MS students,

Please see the following information from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai:

The Genetics and Data Science (GDS) PhD Multidisciplinary Training Area (MTA) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking applicants for the 2021 academic year. Applications are due online on December 1, 2020.

Genetics and data science have the potential to transform medicine by providing a rigorous, quantitative framework for personalized and precise care. The GDS program aims to educate the next generation of leaders who will advance medicine.

The GDS program provides students rigorous training for a broad range of genetics and data science research, including the genetic basis of health and disease, experimental technologies for genetic measurements, and computational methods for the analysis of genetic data including bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, dynamical modeling, medical informatics, and network modeling. In their first year, students complete foundational coursework in biomedical science and explore multiple labs before joining a lab. In their second year, students work with internationally recognized scientists to develop proposals for their theses. In years 3-5, students execute their thesis projects. Throughout the program, students also participate in journal clubs, seminars, retreats, and other activities. GDS students also have opportunities to collaborate with scientists and engineers at The Cooper Union, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Stony Brook University.

Uniquely, our GDS program provides students an environment that is singularly focused on advancing medicine, that leverages one of the largest and most diverse academic patient populations in the US, that emphasizes multidisciplinary team science, that affords students close mentorship through a high faculty-to-student ratio, and that is located in the heart of NYC, one of the most dynamic cities.

All GDS students receive stipends ($40,000 per year in 2020), full tuition support, guaranteed access to Sinai-owned affordable housing near campus, and a comprehensive healthcare package.
