George Washington's Mount Vernon

Introduction:

George Washington's Mount Vernon is pleased to invite applications for a fall 2015 internship in the Historic Preservation and Collections Department. This internship will offer exciting opportunities to participate in the development and implementation of the forthcoming major exhibition on slavery at Mount Vernon (opening September 2016), working closely with the lead curator and project manager as well as other members of the exhibition team.



Responsibilities:

Specific assignments may include exhibition evaluation; liaison and content development for exhibition interactives, marketing, website updates; acquisition and management of digital assets; other duties as assigned. The paid internship is full-time for 10 weeks (or an equivalent number of hours). Compensation in the amount of $5,000 (gross) is offered, payable on Mount Vernon's bi-weekly pay schedule. Applicants are responsible for their own housing and travel arrangements. Mount Vernon is happy to work with the intern's academic program to provide credit for the internship period.



Qualifications:

Minimum of bachelor's degree in American history, American studies, material culture, museum studies, public history, or related field, with specialization in African American history; graduate coursework or master's degree preferred; familiarity with exhibition evaluation techniques desired.

Start date target: September 8, 2015
