I'd like to invite our PhD students to join in for a different opportunity. I've been hosting a weekly happy hour for the Southern Association for Women Historians (SAWH). On Thursday, 4/23, Nadine Zimmerli from UVA Press is going to join us for a discussion/informal Q & A about academic publishing. She's happy to talk about any aspect of the process, in addition to UVA Press's particular areas of interest. She'd also like to get queries in advance, so if any of our students want to send me questions or topics they'd like to hear discussed, I'll be happy to forward those to Nadine. I've already put one on the list: How and at what stage in the process should one approach editors?
The happy hour starts at 5:30 with social time, which all are welcome to join (though I can't promise any one person will be able to get a word in edgewise in this lively group!). Nadine will start directing the conversation around 6pm. I'm forwarding the Zoom login info below.
Looking ahead, on 4/30, the plan is to do something similar with one or more UNC archivists on tap to talk about resources and strategies for keeping research agendas afloat despite all the closures. That conversation will be geared heavily toward research on the American South, but all are welcome to join and, again, questions in advance are welcome. I can forward them to Matt Turi at the Southern Historical Collection, who's graciously agreed to do this for the SAWH community.
