The Department of History at Columbia University invites applications for a Staff Associate position to coordinate multi-disciplinary research for the History Lab's Digital Humanities Project. The Staff Associate will use data science methods to analyze world politics. This will require qualitative work like reading historical documents and scholarship. The incumbent also will engage in quantitative work such as querying the database and running scripts on document collections to extract new data. The Staff Associate will be responsible for maintaining the database, codebase, and virtual servers, e.g. managing user accounts and permissions, ensuring data is backed-up, and monitoring server processes. The incumbent will also work with other team members and outside consultants to identify, acquire, and process new document collections and add new information and features to the History-Lab website. In addition, the Staff Associate will assist with identifying and pursuing grant funding opportunities and help with grant reporting.
The initial appointment is for one year, beginning as soon as August 21, 2017. Renewal beyond the first year will be contingent upon satisfactory performance and continuation of funding.
