Dear graduate students in History,

A few weeks ago Dr. Holt sent out an announcement regarding an internship with the Air Force History and Museums Program.  The announcement stated that interviews would be held at Georgetown University on January 19th.  As it turns out, additional interviews for the program will be held here at George Mason on February 10th.  Students at the M.A., ABD, and Ph.D. level are all eligible for the internship.  The announcement is below, and additional information can be found in the attachment to this message.

The Department of the Air Force has authorized the Air Force Historical Studies Office, Bolling Air Force Base, D.C., to hire a Palace Acquire Intern during this fiscal year.

This announcement is a general summary of the Palace Acquire intern program, sometimes referred to as the "Outstanding Scholar" program. This is a three-year training program to prepare the intern for placement in a permanent historian position.  The intern position is full-time, even during the training period, and the intern is entitled to federal benefits, including annual and sick leave, life insurance, and health insurance.

A number of historians employed by the Air Force History and Museums Program began their careers as Air Force historians in the Palace Acquire intern program.  Entry into civil service is often challenging for nonveterans, and the Palace Acquire program provides a valuable opportunity for those who cannot otherwise enter government employment easily.

Interviews will be held at George Mason University on Wednesday, February 10, 2010.  Interested scholars from all accredited universities are encouraged to send a cover letter, a resume, unofficial transcripts, and a writing sample to Dr. John Q. The deadline is February 5.

Applications are welcomed from recent Ph.Ds., M.A.s, or students who are ABD in a doctoral program.
