Greetings, all,
The PhD Colloquium schedule is almost complete, as I am looking to nail
down the last couple of dates with presenters. FYI: We will be meeting
on these dates: Jan 25, Feb 8, Feb 22, Mar 15, Mar 29, Apr 12 and May
3. You should also keep April 26 open. We currently have three
prospectus presenters, but if we have more we will use the April 26 date
as well.
The meeting room for the sessions has yet to be determined, so keep an
eye on your e-mail for where we will meet next Monday.
The first three sessions are set in stone:
History Ph.D. Colloquium, Spring 2010
January 25 Discuss issues related to the PhD program with the
Director.
February 8 Preparing for Oral Exams
PhD Candidate Kurt Knoerl
Dr. Jane Censer, George Mason Department of History and Art History
Dr. Rosemarie Zagarri, George Mason Department of History and Art History
February 22 Dr. Katherine Benton-Cohen, Georgetown University
Department of History
Discussing: /Borderline Americans: Racial Division and Labor War in the
Arizona Borderlands/, Harvard University Press, 2009.
In addition, the department is running a job search this semester for an
advanced position in 20th century American history. The candidates will
be coming to campus on February 4, February 8 and February 11. In
addition to their job talks, to which you are all invited, there will be
meetings of graduate students with the candidates. The times and
locations have not been established with the exception of February 8
when the graduate student meeting with the candidate will be at 4pm. I
will update you when a full schedule appears.
