Cafe Culture in South Korea

Couples, friends, and families are lined up to take a picture in front of the giant pink gates adorned with a hot pink bow. While they smile and pose, the sound of cameras clicking and giggling girls surrounds the area. Everything pink, girly, and hello-kitty-related engulfs the interior of the building. This popular tourist spot is a dream for Hello Kitty fans or people looking to visit a one-of-a-kind, unique cafe. This is the flashy and cute Hello Kitty Cafe<http://www.hellokittycafe.co.kr/en/> in Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea. Thousands of people visit this cafe each week as it is one of the most popular cafes in Seoul.

The Banana Tree Cafe<https://www.facebook.com/bananatreesg/> in Seoul is famous for its flower pot-shaped cups. You can order a variety of cakes and puddings that are made to look like “flower pot desserts." This adorable cafe is great for those looking for the unique cafe experience.

The Air Cafe<http://korea.stripes.com/restaurant-guide/seouls-theme-cafes-air-cafe> is a quaint cafe with an airplane and travel theme. This brunch cafe offers mostly European food and hopes to give the feeling of being abroad without actually being in Europe. The cafe has fun with making visitors feel like they are on an airplane with two-person tables labeled as “economy” and tables for larger parties labeled as “business” class. Travel brochures and booklets are placed throughout the cafe for visitors to plan their next adventure.

The CaFace Cafe<https://www.facebook.com/caface.seoul/> is great for people that love to take selfies. When you arrive at the cafe, you are designated a photobooth. You can take funny pictures with your friends and choose your favorite. That picture will then be printed on the surface of your drink using a food printer. You can enjoy a latte with yours and your friends faces printed on it. This one-of-a-kind cafe is located in Hongdae, the youth hub of Seoul.

Seoul is home to many quirky and unique cafes. Cafe culture in South Korea is very prevalent, making cafes a very common place for friends to go to. Cafes are great for studying, socializing, or feeding a hungry stomach. Some of the cafes offer a fun and atypical experience while others are there to be a quiet and cozy place to study.
