Dear Students,
The spring 2017 schedule of classes is available for viewing on Patriot Web<https://patriotweb.gmu.edu/>. View graduate level classes under the subjects Biology, Bioinformatics, and Biosciences. If you plan to register for a course outside of these subjects, first get your faculty advisor's permission by sending him / her a course description from the university catalog<http://catalog.gmu.edu/content.php?catoid=29&navoid=6272>. Registration begins November 1.

We have added a BIOL 695 / BIOS 704 seminar to the spring schedule.

For a lab rotation (BINF 703, BIOS 703), first send an email to the professor for permission and then copy me on the reply. I'll email you the CRN to use to register with. The CRN listed in the schedule of classes for lab rotation is not an active course number.

If you plan to register for independent study credits (BINF 996 or BIOS 898/899 Directed Study/Research) in spring 2017, first consult with the professor you will be working with to fill out the Directed Studies form on http://ssb.gmu.edu/students/index.cfm under "Doctoral Students" . Send me the form once it's signed by you and the professor. The number of credits can be flexible according to your topic and project.

PhD students, if you have not registered in previous terms for dissertation proposal credits (BINF 998 or BIOS 998) and want to begin proposal registration in spring 2017, you'll need to first form a dissertation committee. Talk with your faculty research advisor about possible committee members. The "SSB Graduate Committee Formation" form is found on http://ssb.gmu.edu/students/index.cfm Please send it to me once your committee members have signed, and I will get the dept. signatures. You will need to plan ahead for spring 2017 registration and send the form to me this fall term.

Thank you,
Diane St. Germain
