Student Media has an immediate opening for the Prince William Campus 
Editor.  Please see below for additional information.

Prince William is a fast-growing part of Mason and Student Media would 
like to expand its coverage of the Prince William campus. The Prince 
William Campus Editor monitors the events and news on the Prince William 
campus, developing and writing stories for various Student Media 
organizations publications, including Broadside and Connet2Mason. The 
editor collaborates with professional staff and student leaders to find 
opportunities for interviews and engaging content covering the Prince 
William campus.

 

The intern works 10 hours weekly and receives a $75/week stipend.

 

Send a resume and a writing sample of 500 to 750 words to

The position duties are divided as follows:

 

*20%* Develop story ideas with other editors and advisors. Includes:**

?        Meeting with editorial staff as required to discuss upcoming 
issues;

?        Identifying topics on the Prince William campus;

?        Deciding what aspect of these topics would make a quality story;

?        Relaying shape of final story to editorial staff; and

?        Occasional time required at Office of Student Media on Fairfax 
Campus.

 

*30% *Research stories. Includes: **

?        Conducting background research;

?        Performing interviews;  and

?        Contacting sources.

 

*20% *Fact check, edit and improve stories. Includes:**

?        Working with writers and editors to insure a high quality of 
content;

?        Maintaining journalistic integrity; and

?        Expanding stories with relevant information, facts and quotes.

 

*30%* Write solid, readable stories. Includes:**

?        Displaying a firm handling of mechanics;

?        Structuring the story to highlight features integral to it;

?        Employing a unique authorial voice; and

?        Rewriting and revising as necessary.
