Think about all you have accomplished and reward yourself with a nice book (for pleasure reading), meal, or entertainment event. Taking time to disengage is key for revitalizing yourself; connect with family and friends, relax, watch mindless TV, do whatever renews you. Before you completely disconnect from grad school mode, though, take note of how the semester has gone and what you may be able to do similarly or differently next term. If everything went swimmingly, then keep that current and sail into the next semester with confidence. I would encourage taking the rest of December as your me time and disconnect from your academic/scholarly endeavors but go into January with the intention of planning out your spring semester and possibly the summer. I find planning during the break can set you up for both short-term and long-term success. Plan out internship and or practicum schedules; apply for them if you haven’t already. The Graduate and Professional Student Association (GAPSA) and the conference planning committee invite all Mason graduate and professional students to submit their abstracts (250 words maximum) for consideration. The theme for this year’s conference is “Globalized Society, Complex Issues: The Role of Interdisciplinary Research." Proposals can be individual/group papers, documentaries, films, and visual presentations and performances. While the call for proposals is open only to current Mason graduate and professional students, we allow students to submit works in which they collaborate with external researchers.
