This report covers our research portfolio performance through September 30, 2022, for rolling 12-month performance as well as for 1Q23 (July, August, September) performance. We had a very strong first quarter FY23 for awards, indirect, and proposals. We had an ok quarter for expenditures which should pick up in the second quarter.

EXPENDITURES:

  1.  1Q23 expenditures were $16.7M. Annualized, that would be $66.8M. FY22 expenditures were $70.1M.
  2.  Rolling 12-month expenditures were $60.0M compared to $74M in the same period a year ago. A primary reason for the overall drop is a decline in expenditures by RPRC from $48.8M last year to $32M this year.
  3.  BENG, CN3, CEIE, CS, CSIS, CYSE, IST, ME, STAT, SEOR, and the Dean’s Office all had increases from last year. ME is now comfortably over the $1M threshold with $1.2M over the past year. Congratulations to them!

AWARDS:

  1.  1Q23 awards were $25.5M. Annualized, that would be $102M. FY22 awards were $61.6M.
  2.  Rolling 12-month awards were $52.5M compared to $65.2M in the same period a year ago. A primary reason for the drop is a decline in awards for RPRC from $38.3M last year to $29.4M this year. However, RPRC has gotten $17.8M in awards in 1Q23 and Bill Roeting recently received a very large award that is not captured in this month’s report.
  3.  CEIE, CSIS, and IST all had increases from last year. C-TASC, which is a relatively new center, had $2.3M in awards.

INDIRECT:

  1.  1Q23 indirect was $2.7M. Annualized, that would be $10.8M. FY22 indirect was $7.8M.
  2.  Rolling 12-month indirect was $7.8M compared to $7.5M for the same period a year ago.
  3.  BENG, CN3, CSIS, CYSE, IST, ME, STAT, SEOR, and the Dean’s Office all had increases from last year. ME set a record.

PROPOSALS:

  1.  1Q23 proposals were $83.4M. Annualized, that would be $333.6M. FY22 proposals were $205.3M.
  2.  Rolling 12-month proposals were $205.3M compared to $175.7M for the same period a year ago.
  3.  BENG, CN3, CS, CARE, CSIS, CYSE, ME, RPRC, STAT, and the Dean’s Office all had increases from last year. ME and the Dean’s Office set records.
