If you haven’t registered yet for your Fall classes, keep in mind our new course: BENG 699 Biomanufacturing.  This course can count towards the concentration course requirements for the Biomaterials and Nanomedicine concentration for PhD students.  It can also be used as a technical elective or specialization for the PhD and MS program respectively.

This course is team taught, in part by external experts, who bring decades of shared expertise and experience to the classroom.  Experts have a range of government (FDA and NIST) and private industry experience in the field of biomanufacturing.

Biomanufacturing is the term used to describe a series of processes, relying on the tools of biotechnology, biochemistry, and chemical and mechanical engineering, used to produce biopharmaceuticals.  Biopharmaceuticals include a broad range of products that are manufactured in living cells.  This course will introduce the students to biopharmaceutical products, such as vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, biosimilars, and others, and the processes required to manufacture these products. In addition, students will learn about the quality systems that need to be in place to ensure product purity, safety, and potency.

It will be taught on Thursdays, 4:30-7:10 pm.
