Dear SIS students,

Please support our very own faculty, Dr. Mike Gilmore, Dr. Andrew Wingfield, and Dr. Brian Griffiths as they host a virtual film screening related to their academic research in the Peruvian Rain Forest.

Sponsors: FECONAMAI, Institute for a Sustainable Earth, School of Integrative Studies, Environmental Science and Policy Department, Smithsonian Mason School of Conservation, Global Affairs Program, Social Justice and Human Rights Initiative, LEAD, SAIL, Film and Video Studies Program, and the Center for Humanities Research, NAIA, SEJA, OnePlanet, and ACEER

The film tells the inspiring story of the Maijuna Indigenous group of the Peruvian Amazon as they fight for their biologically rich ancestral lands and cultural survival. The Maijuna culture is sustained and nourished by their heavily forested ancestral territory, which is increasingly threatened by outsiders. After introducing and screening the film, this event will culminate in a question-and-answer session with Maijuna leaders and the film’s producer and director.  To register for free, please visit: http://go.gmu.edu/Maijuna

Please feel free to reach out to Elizabeth Schierbeek, [log in to unmask], with any questions.
