The Instrumentation Development and Engineering Application Solutions (IDEAS) group in NIBIB has an internship (Pathways program) job opening for a qualified student in the fields of electrical, mechanical, computer, or biomedical engineering, as well as computer science. IDEAS is the central, on-campus, engineering resource within the NIH, with broad range of engineering knowledge and experience establishing a strong infrastructure fostering technology incubators and high-risk high-reward research. Most IDEAS activities require first-of-a-kind instrumentation design, software development (both for instrument control and signal analysis), in-house fabrication, and overall collaborative validation in laboratories and clinics.

The intern will assist in the design and development of advanced biomedical instrumentation used in research projects at the NIH. The student will work ‘hands-on’ in a laboratory involved in a wide range of technologies such as: 3D CAD mechanical design and implementation, rapid electronic and mechanical prototyping and testing; digital signal and video processing; digital and analog circuit design; opto-electronics; programmable logic devices; application specific software development; and mobile application development. This exciting position will enable the student to immediately apply knowledge gained in the classroom towards important projects in biomedical research.

Applicants must be willing to work a minimum of one year. Required work hours are 16 hours/week minimum during school semesters and 40 hours/per week during the summer months.
