All,

I goofed. When I wrote my original email I missed counting a finger when counting years. As I have been so eloquently reminded by a few of you, setting the end date to May 31, 2016, means that people who received a new computer in Fall 2016 have a computer that is now five years old, and should be eligible for replacement this fall. So, let's bump that year up by one - anyone who has not received a computer since May 31, 2017 should complete the survey at

Please submit your request by COB Tuesday, November 2, so we can complete our analysis and place the orders. As always, replacements are limited by our budget constraints.

After over a year of budget uncertainties I think we are on track to restart our annual obsolete computer replacement program.

The campus program provides ONE computer per full-time faculty every five years for use for administrative and academic functions. You are eligible only if you have not received a computer since May 31, 2016, under either the obsolete or new faculty program. Please do not complete the survey if you have received a computer under the ETF obsolete or new faculty program since May 31, 2017.

As a result of the changes in work patterns during and after the pandemic, we are offering only laptops, either Windows or a MacBook Pro. The choices are:

*         Apple Laptop
* 14-Inch MacBook Pro Space Gray with Backlit Magic Keyboard and Touch ID
*         Apple M1 Pro with 8-core CPU / 14-core GPU / 16-core Neural Engine
*         16Gb unified memory
*         512 Gb SSD HD
* Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI port, SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 port
*         AppleCare+ included
*         Windows Laptop
*         Dell Latitude 5411 14" or comparable
*         11th Generation i7-1165G7 (2.8GHzz, 4-core, 12M cache)
*         16GB DDR4 RAM
*         512 GB SSD HD
*         Three-year warranty included

Please note that MacBooks now have an Apple M1 chip which does not support Windows or Windows software, either natively or in a virtual machine. If your course or other applications use Windows software, please select the Dell Latitude.

To simplify things, we have developed a survey form to use to provide the necessary information and that form shows the specific configurations available for each option.

Please complete the form by 10 PM Sunday, October 31, after which the survey will be closed and the results will be analyzed to see how many requests can be accommodated as there is a limited budget for the program.

We will notify you as soon as possible about the decision and provide an estimated delivery date. Please note that we have been experiencing very long delivery times on all computer orders.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the program.

Jonathan
