Faculty Position

Department of Industrial Engineering

Cullen College of Engineering

University of Houston

 

Position: The Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for a tenure track/tenured faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to develop nationally recognized scholarship, teaching, service, and a strong record of externally funded research. We are looking for outstanding candidates in all areas of industrial engineering with an emphasis on Health, Machine Learning, or Sustainable Communities and Infrastructure.

 

Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering or a closely related field. They are expected to develop nationally recognized, cross-disciplinary research programs. Successful applicants must demonstrate a record of developing and maintaining a vigorous research program, sustaining a strong record of peer-reviewed publication, external funding, advising students, and teaching innovation.

 

University:  The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has recognized the University of Houston as a research university with very high research activity.  UH enjoys strong ties as a full member of the Texas Medical Center.  UH has 47,000 students on the main campus and is among the top 25 colleges and universities granting undergraduate and graduate degrees to Hispanics, and among the top 50 for enrolling Hispanic graduates and undergraduates. The University of Houston is an ADVANCE institution, one of a select group of universities in receipt of NSF funds in support of our commitment to increase diversity and the participation and advancement of women in STEM.

 

Department: The IE Department has 12 full-time faculty and over 300 students in programs leading to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.  The department has recently embarked on an exciting period of research growth as well as student enrollment growth. Many opportunities exist for collaboration with several departments in the College, University, and community in the Greater Houston Area. 

 

City of Houston:  The university's 600-acre campus is only a short drive from downtown Houston, the fourth-largest city in the nation.  In addition to being the energy capital of the world, the Houston metropolitan area can boast of leading consulting engineers, construction, oil servicing, computer, telecommunication, and biomedical companies, as well as NASA's Johnson Space Center and the world-renowned Texas Medical Center.  Greater Houston is a modern, rapidly growing, and economically thriving region.  It has a full spectrum of cultural activities, as well as sports and outdoor activities. 

 

Time Frame: The start date of this appointment can be as early as September 1, 2022. We will begin reviewing applications immediately and continue until the position is filled.
