George Mason University is looking to hire a part-time graduate student to assist staff with administration of the Commonwealth Cybersecurity Initiative Experiential Learning Project (described below)

The objective of this joint project with Marymount University is to conduct a program that facilitates students experiential learning opportunities focusing on an important part of the Virginia cybersecurity ecosystem, startups and small businesses. Companies need young cybersecurity talent and are often impacted in their hiring of workers because of limited startup financing and the high cost of cybersecurity labor. It is anticipated that through their participation in this program, the students will not only continue to develop further their technical skills with real world experience, but also gain valuable soft skills, such as critical thinking and communication.  Companies will have students work on appropriate projects that will give their interns the chance to get practical experience. These young professionals are encouraged to be part of the cybersecurity innovation ecosystem during their college education and on graduation, increasing the chances of their retention in the Virginia region.

The graduate student intern will assist staff with administration of the program and will have the following tasks:

Tasks:

• Help match students with appropriate projects and companies
• Conduct regular check-ins with interns and host supervisors
• Monitor the interns progress over the course of the internship
• Approve timesheets, send reminders and track the hours to ensure interns are completing quota of hours
• Provide assistance as needed during the workshops, webinars and final presentation

Hours/Compensation:

• 4 hours per week on average
• 14 weeks, starting August 30^th  to December 10^th
• Pay is $20/hour

• Graduate student
• Experience working with students and managing students
• Computer science/IT/cybersecurity major with cybersecurity focus
