Graduate students are on the front lines of undergraduate student instruction as teaching assistants, however, understanding how to be an effective educator is often learned through experience rather than formal training. Orchestrating thoughtful and impactful
discussions about injustice throughout history or talking about “hard histories” in the classroom is imperative for student education yet requires delicacy and care to be executed effectively. This is an area of opportunity where current graduate students
and early career historians can learn from the practices and experiences of each other. This virtual, roundtable event will provide an informal platform where graduate students can learn from each other how they navigate difficult topics in the classroom.
