Sorry for blowing up your inboxes twice in as many weeks, but at least this one is a twofer! (I know, I know... I'm really beating this numeric horse to death)

First, we still have a few slots available for tomorrow's (re)launch of the CSPS Defense and Security Research Forum. Please join us as we welcome Dr. Alexander Lanoszka (University of Waterloo... it's in Canada) from 2:00-3:30 pm on Thursday, March 18th (again, that's tomorrow). A rising star in the field of alliance politics, Dr. Lanoszka will present his new work on non-aggression pacts. And remember, this forum is not like other speaker events or research presentations. The goal is to create a venue where graduate students can learn from--and exchange ideas with--junior faculty and other up and coming security scholars. To this end, Dr. Lanoszka plans to spend most of his time talking about the challenges and obstacles he faced writing this draft article and trying to navigate the peer-review process. Trust me: whether you're toying with the idea of doing peer-reviewed research, or you've already published a dozen academic articles, you're going to learn something new from Dr. Lanoszka. He publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research faster than most of us can blog...

Email Joe Petrucelli at [log in to unmask] to RSVP. He'll provide you with the requisite Zoom link. Again, we're capping the event at 25 to ensure that we can facilitate a robust back and forth.

Second, we're pleased to announce our Spring 2021 Crisis Simulation! We've decided to "repeat" last semester's basic setup, which revolves around a hypothetical - but not implausible - militarized crisis in Europe. Only this time we injected the scenario with some serious escalatory steroids. So even if you participated last November and thought you had things under control (hint: you didn't) I promise that you'll still get a lot out of the experience.

The simulation will be divided into two parts. The first will run from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm EDT on Friday, April 23rd; and the second from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm EDT on Saturday, April 24th. It's entirely virtual, so if you ever wanted to know what it feels like to debate the merits of nuclear annihilation while wearing a bath robe, it's either this or run for President!

I'm attaching a flyer with additional details. You can RSVP here (or cut and paste https://gmu.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZFIhd4nORGWNJi8BFW39Wg). Please note that space is limited and this event is only open to Mason students (so you'll need to register with your Mason email address).

I hope to see you at one - or both - events!

Best,

Mike
