Teaching Seminar

Time:  3:00-4:00 pm

Title:   Recording neural representations of space and time

 

After this lecture, students will be able to define episodic memory and name the most important brain structures supporting the formation of new episodic memories. Students will be able to explain how neuronal spikes can be measured in the extracellular space around neurons. They will be able to explain how tetrodes can be used to record the spiking activity of a single neuron. Last, students will be introduced to examples of single unit recordings with tetrodes in the hippocampus of freely moving rodents and students will learn that spiking activity in the hippocampus can be interpreted as a neural “code” for space and time.
