Good morning, BIS students. We just received information about an opportunity for a FREE virtual mindfulness and stress relief retreat. Please see the information below from the Mason student organization SKY. The techniques taught have been researched by Yale, using Yale student participants.

Hello Students,

We are a student organization at George Mason University called SKY at GMU which is centered around the mental health and wellbeing of our fellow Patriot students and faculty/staff. We are hosting a big event centered around well-being and wellness that we would love to share with you all.

The SKY Happiness Retreat is a course focusing on mindfulness and stress relief through breathwork, meditation, yoga, and more. The SKY Breath Meditation and the 3-session Retreat have been shown in research to significantly reduce anxiety and depression, lower stress markers, and increase wellbeing, focus, improved sleep, optimism, and social connection. Participants report an increased ability to stay calm, confident and resilient amidst challenges, increased levels of social connection and feelings of inclusion, and less suicidal feelings.

Yale University has done research on how effective the SKY Happiness Retreat is among other mindfulness programs. In the research it was shown that students preferred the techniques taught in the retreat over the other programs. To check out the research done at Yale, you can use the link provided to learn more. https://youtu.be/Vlu3arLc0WE

The course we are providing is usually $95 for each student, but we were provided funding from GMU and are able to provide the course to students FOR FREE. The dates and timings for the course will be listed below.

Friday January 15th, 6-9 PM

Saturday January 16th, 12-3 PM

Sunday January 17th, 12-3 PM

*must attend all sessions

To sign up for the course, use the link https://linktr.ee/skyatgmu. Since the course is free, we will be asking students for their commitment to be at all 3 sessions since each session builds up on the other.

Hope to see you all there!
