Dear ECE Master’s Students,

Advising update: Effective Monday, March 23rd, ALL student advising will be conducted electronically via email, phone, Webex, or other electronic platforms. There will be no scheduled in-person advising.

With summer and fall registration time ticket dates approaching (time tickets were updated this week) as indicated on the Registrar calendar, we understand the increased need for advising. Please follow the instructions below for receiving remote advising.

To request advising support: Each graduate student in the ECE department is assigned a faculty advisor. You will be notified by the department via email about who your assigned advisor is for this semester. If at any point you lose this information, you may email the ECE department at [log in to unmask] to request the information to be re-sent to you.

Although we expect the majority of advising to be conducted via email, depending on the advisor’s preference, one-one meetings may be scheduled with the advisor via phone, Webex,  or similar platforms on a case-by-case basis.

As a first step, email your advisor (from your GMU account) with any advising needs. Make sure you include your full name and G number. Be aware some responses may take one business day or more, depending on the nature of the advising request, or the volume of advising emails. Faculty are currently migrating courses online so next week will be especially busy for them.

If you need guidance on registration for summer or fall 2020 classes, create a course schedule (include first and second choice courses) and email it to your advisor for review. Please be very specific in your email about your questions or advising needs.

If you are uncertain of what courses you need to register for, use Degree Works in Patriot Web. It is a "virtual advisor" that will show you what requirements are missing from your degree plan. See this guide for instructions on how to use Degree Works.
