REGISTRATION:  Please read attached Important Information for Bioengineering Spring 2020 Registration! IMPORTANT CHANGE: BENG 420/520 may not be taught in Fall 2020. Please rearrange your schedules for Spring 2020!

SPRING 2020 Registration: Departmental Controls will be on the following classes BENG 214, BENG 230, BENG 241, BENG 320, BENG 330/331, BENG 370/371, BENG 420, meaning you won’t be able to register until we officially lift the controls. This is to prevent students to register without the necessary prerequisites. Controls will be lifted Monday, January 6th at 10 am. Students who need any of these classes to graduate in Spring 2020 email me for an override.

GRADUATION:

Winter 2019 Graduates: Ceremony is this Thursday, Dec. 19th at Eagle Bank Arena. Important information about timelines and the entire graduation process can be found at https://registrar.gmu.edu/students/graduation/ .

Spring and Summer 2020 Graduates: Make sure to make an appointment with Claudia Borke to go over degree audit and classes BEFORE Spring registration. The Spring 2020 graduation application is now available on Patriot Web.  Students must apply to graduate by February 23, 2020 to have their names printed in the commencement program.  Summer 2020 graduates should not apply for Spring graduation.  Instead, students who apply for Summer graduation between January 29, 2020 and February 23, 2020 will be included in the commencement program.

 

REMINDER:

MATH 114 and MATH 214 need to be passed with a B- and above in the department of bioengineering.


ORGANIZATIONS:

BMES: Consider becoming a member of the national Biomedical Engineering Society. Only $30/ year for student membership. How to register for the local BMES chapter:  Go to Mason 360, search BMES or click on the Groups & Organizations icon which takes you to the BMES page. Click the blue JOIN button. This is an opportunity to mingle with BIOE students, network, go to conferences, help , fundraise and have fun.

Mindfulness/Meditation session | Tuesdays | 12:00-12:45pm | JC Rm 234 | Come and join the Mason community for an opportunity to pause, breather, relax, and be in a kind, supportive, loving space.

3-Minute Thesis | Mason will be participating in the 3-Minute Thesis competition . Registration is open and will continue until February 7, 2020.

                                The 3MT is about effectively communicating your dissertation research to a non-technical audience in 3 minutes or less and with at most one slide.  A preliminary round will be held in the Spring and only the top ten finalists will advance to the final round to be held on March 27, 2020.  Prizes range from $500-$1000

FCVC Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Accepting Applications
Summary: The University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center is pleased to offer a 10-week fellowship program starting in May 2020 to support undergraduate students interested in cardiovascular research. Each fellow will be matched to a laboratory led by a FCVC faculty member and participate in nationally recognized research in areas such as atherosclerosis, genetic cardiomyopathies, blood clotting disorders, cardiac arrhythmias, vascular biology, and heart failure. The SURF program provides full-time research opportunities at the University of Michigan for 30 talented undergraduate students interested in cardiovascular research and medicine. 
Application deadline: Friday, January 31, 2020.
Time: The program starts Tuesday, May 26, 2020 and ends the first week of August.
