Dear Students:

The Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University, in collaboration with the Common Ground Committee, invite you to a discussion between General David Petraeus, former director of the CIA, and Susan Rice, former ambassador to the UN and National Security Advisor, moderated by Craig Melvin, news anchor on NBC News’ TODAY and on MSNBC live.  We are excited about offering this unique opportunity to see two well-known public figures, with differing backgrounds and differing views, discuss the New Cold War.

Why is this a unique opportunity?  In the world as we currently know it, our country is politically divided – and divided to the extent that differing political views can lead to violence.  The Common Ground Committee is a non-partisan, citizen-led organization that inspires action on polarizing issues by bringing prominent leaders with opposing views together in public forums to find common ground.  General Petraeus, a political independent, and Ambassador Rice, a Democrat, will discuss the issues on a wide range of foreign policy issues, from China to North Korea.

The event will be held in Dewberry Hall, on the Fairfax Campus of George Mason University, on November 19th from 7:00-8:30PM.  To attend, you will need to register for a ticket, and will need to bring the ticket with you (hard-copy or on your mobile device) when you come.  We urge you to register quickly.  For the next 48 hours, only Mason students will be able to register; after that time, registration will be open to a wide audience.  Each person may register for a maximum of 2 tickets.  Please go here to register:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/public-forum-on-the-new-cold-war-with-general-david-petraeus-and-former-ambassador-susan-rice-tickets-76106702195

Please note that the event will be filmed.  If you prefer not to be filmed, please tell someone at the registration table when you come to the event; they will be able to guide you to a “no film” seating area.

We hope to see you there!
