Subject: Graduate Education Monthly Updates

Dear Program Directors and Coordinators,

This is our monthly email with information relevant to graduate education! We would ask that you please help us to share the information with your graduate students!

The Commonwealth Graduate Education Day is approaching - November 1, 2019 at the University of Virginia. Each year the Virginia Council for Graduate Schools hosts an opportunity for students to learn about opportunities in graduate education at institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.  We are pleased to announce that Mason will be well-represented at this year’s event, to include several graduate students and faculty from seven different disciplines from across the University. If your undergraduate students are interested in attending, they can register here.

Funding opportunity deadlines are approaching:

o   Dissertation Completion Grant - Applications due on October 25, 2019

o   Provost PhD Award - Applications due on November 1, 2019

o   Graduate Student Travel Fund (rolling)

More information about these opportunities can be found here

The Office of Graduate Education has a new official mission: “Mason Graduate Education enables students to achieve their personal and career goals by supporting advanced learning, research and scholarly study, enhancing professional development, and promoting well-being.”

Attached you will find information on Sunset of Cooperative Education.  In order for an F-1 student to be authorized by the DSO to participate in a curricular practical training program it needs to be an integral part of an established curriculum. How can you help? Review programs in your college/school and ensure that internship or practicum opportunities are either (a) a required component of an academic program, or (b) undertaken for academic credit (preferably, but not necessarily, counted toward degree requirements).

Please review the documents attached about these important updates for international students, and contact Ms. Judith vanBever-Green, Executive Director, International Programs and Services OR Ms. Saskia Campbell, Executive Director of University Career Services if you have any questions.

Our monthly graduate education “newsletter” is scheduled to go on the last Wednesday of this month.  If you have information you want included in this newsletter, please send the information to [log in to unmask] by COB the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Please follow us at Laurence Bray @Mason_GradEd and help us to spread the news!

Please don’t hesitate to contact [log in to unmask] with any questions pertaining to these opportunities or with questions regarding graduate education opportunities at Mason.
