SPOTLIGHT: BIOE Senior Ranya Al-Rawi
Ranya was the Deloitte Scholarship recipient in Fall 2018. Here is what she wrote for the newsletter about her experience:
“I applied to the Deloitte Scholarship that was offered to Mason's Bioengineering junior students in fall 2018. The scholarship was supported by Deloitte consulting. It was based on academics mostly. I
also had to write an essay that discussed my goals for junior year, short and long term career goals, outside activities that involve the community. About 5 months after I submitted my application, I was contacted by the Deloitte on campus recruiter to schedule
an interview for the scholarship with a technology consulting senior manager from Deloitte. The interview went well. I was asked about my goals, challenges I had to face and how I overcame them, future plans after graduation, new things I am currently interested
in, my strengths and weaknesses. The key is to be yourself and give honest answers since the interviewer wants to know the applicant better. Which is exactly what I did and my interviewer made it a very enjoyable 20 minute conversation.
After the interview, I received an invitation to apply for the Deloitte summer externship that lasts 2 days in the Rosslyn office in Arlington. This externship is offered for rising seniors who are interested
in technology consulting and are graduating in May 2020. I did 2 interviews to be accepted for the externship program, one was a behavioral interview and the other one was a case interview, where I had a case given to me and I had to discuss a solution with
my interviewer within a 30 min time frame. The externship was a unique experience. We were a total of 20 rising seniors from universities from all over the states. We did mostly group activities, one of them involved a case competition. Most of us, have engineering/
economics background so we used our problem solving skills to introduce a solution to a panel formed by representatives from Deloitte.”
Deloitte Scholarship application 2019 will be posted beginning of October in the newsletter.
