Don’t know if you got this. Since they are looking for ABDs, I won’t send this to the MA list, but you might want it for the PhDs.

Good morning,

I am writing on behalf of Past Tense Graduate Review of History to announce that we are currently accepting applications for external reviewers. Please forward this message to graduate students in your department.

Past Tense provides a forum for developing scholars to gain experience with academic publishing. The journal publishes original research articles, book reviews and critical commentaries about issues in the field of history. It welcomes submissions from researchers of all disciplines and institutions on topics that concern a broad range of time periods and geographies. Past Tense is published online at http://pasttensejournal.com.

The ideal external reviewer candidate will be an ABD graduate student in a History PhD program (or closely related field) with both thematic and geographic expertise. External reviewers will participate in the double-blind peer review process by evaluating research article submissions with respect to their originality, argumentation, style, and historiographical rigor. The feedback we receive from external reviewers is instrumental in determining the acceptance of articles for publication.

The majority of external review work will take place in November and December of each year. The number of submissions reviewers are asked to review each issue cycle will vary based on submissions received. We typically will not ask reviewers to review more than three articles per cycle.

If you are interested in applying, please complete the form available at https://forms.gle/WSG7f73VPkpx7jCN7. We aim to confirm the result of your application within two weeks of receipt.

Thank you for your consideration,

Hannah Cooley
