Subject: Tanzania Winter 2020 Study Abroad Opportunity for HIST Students
This upcoming winter, George Mason Study Abroad is hosting a fascinating and unique program to Zanzibar, Tanzania to study modern day human trafficking and slavery. The course will specifically explore
contemporary forms of slavery and human trafficking occurring in Africa and the different kinds of legal practices and barriers involved. This is one of our most unique programs and was widely attended by GMU History students last year.
This program is hosted by our very own Office of Global Education Director, Dr. Brian Gibson, and the students will get the amazing opportunity to hear lectures from renowned lawyer and leading Human
Trafficking expert, Dr. Bernard Freemon. Dr. Freemon has taught at several prestigious law schools, including NYU and Seton Law, written several books on modern day slavery, and has given his expertise on countless news and TV programs. This would be a fantastic
opportunity for GMU History students to get hands on experience with a pressing world issue and provide them the opportunity to explore the beautiful Tanzanian land and Swahili culture.
