Faculty,

Please encourage your students to submit their work to the VSE Undergraduate Research Celebration! Note that we have a very broad and inclusive standard for work to be presented:

All kinds of research, design, and scholarly work in our school are welcome. Projects can be individual or group projects and can include research projects with a faculty mentor, course projects at any level (anything from ENGR 107 to senior capstone projects), student organization activities, or even research done at an outside internship.

Thanks,

Sharon

Subject: TIME SENSITIVE: VSE Undergraduate Research Celebration 2019 - Call for Proposals, DEADLINE MARCH 22

Students,

The sixth annual Volgenau School of Engineering Undergraduate Research Celebration will be held on Monday, April 10, from 5:30 to 8:30pm in Dewberry Hall. This is a great opportunity for VSE students to showcase their research and scholarship for the school and university community. If you have completed a research or scholarly project, or have one in progress, please consider participating in the poster session.

Cash prizes of $1000 will be awarded for the most outstanding projects. Judging will be done by representatives of local employers. There will also be a special “People’s Choice Award” voted on by all attendees, also with a cash prize of $1000.

Presenters of winning projects will be invited to participate in the university’s 2019 Celebration of Student Scholarship on May 8 from 10am-4pm in the Center for the Arts and your work will be displayed in the Engineering Building.

All kinds of research, design, and scholarly work in our school are welcome. Projects can be individual or group projects and can include research projects with a faculty mentor, course projects at any level (anything from ENGR 107 to senior capstone projects), student organization activities, or even research done at an outside internship.

The OSCAR office can help you create your poster. There is a lot of helpful information at https://oscar.gmu.edu/students/poster-info/ . Workshops will be offered on March 7 and April 2; check  https://oscar.gmu.edu/events/event/ for details.

You may also submit your project to be considered for an oral keynote presentation; presenters of the two keynotes will each receive an honorarium.

Only VSE students can present at the celebration, but the event is open to the entire university community. Please encourage your friends to participate and attend. Remember, all attendees will be able to vote for People’s Choice Award. Light refreshments will be provided.

The deadline to submit proposals for inclusion in the VSE Undergraduate Research Celebration is Friday, March 22. Proposals need to include a title and abstract of the project. Please submit your proposals here. You will be notified via email by Friday, March 29 if your poster is accepted. Award decisions will be made during the poster session and the celebration will conclude with an award ceremony.

Please feel free to contact my assistant, Letisha Brooks ([log in to unmask]) if you have any questions.
