Middle school and high school students can watch a drone demonstration, make water jump, test biomedical devices, and learn about the technology behind virtual reality at the free Engineering
Youth Conference Sunday, February 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Computer science professor’s research builds a secure Internet. Eric Osterweil,
an assistant professor in Mason Engineering's department of computer science, is building a team of researchers to create a more secure, stable infrastructure for the Internet.

Engineers Week kicks off on Monday, February 18 at noon with a welcome from
the dean and pizza for all.

Martin Slawski, assistant professor in the Department of Statistics, received $174,942 from the National Science Foundation for “New Directions in Learning from
Data with Faulty Correspondence.”
Thomas LaToza, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, received a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation for “Debugging Mental Models.”
Anticipated funding is $514,962.

– CASBBI, 1:00 pm, Krasnow Institute Room 229. The Center for Adaptive Systems for Brain-Body Interactions (CASBBI), led by Siddhartha Sikdar (bioengineering), Jim Thompson (psychology), and Lynn Gerber (health
administration and policy), has been selected for base funding by a team led by the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President S. David Wu. This group meets weekly. Pizza and coffee are provided.
