Greetings, everyone,

On behalf of the Modern German History search committee, I would like to both thank those of you who have agreed to come meet with our job candidates and to invite any and all of you to attend the candidates' meetings with PhD students but also their research presentations and teaching presentations. For those who are interested in applying for academic jobs, the process might be quite useful for you as you think about how you would do the same things in the future. The committee and I would also be grateful for any feedback you have on the job candidates. You can feel free to send that feedback to me prior to our final search committee meeting on February 1.

In addition to the schedule here, I have attached job application letters, CVs, and diversity statements for each of the three finalist candidates. For those of you who will attend colloquium next Monday evening, please make sure that you have read these materials prior to our meeting. Among other things, we can talk about the search process and ways that the process differs at George Mason from other places. For others, you might find the materials useful and instructive whether you will meet the candidates or not.

For those who will attend the PhD student meetings with candidates, in addition to asking them questions, I hope that you will share with them some of your experiences at George Mason. Job candidate visits are in part a selection process but also in part a recruiting process. We want them to have a sense of what it will be like to be a part of our community.

Steve
