The exhibit tells these stories through individual narratives and experiences while still providing a larger historical context. Since the exhibit is on loan from the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, the text is in both English and Chinese. This provides an excellent opportunity for your students to not only learn more about modern Chinese history, but also a chance to interact with an authentic text in a real-life context. It will be on display here at the museum from February 3rd 2019 through March 10th 2019. In conjunction with the exhibit, we have also developed an archival exploration for middle school students which looks at items in our collection once owned by Jewish refugees living in the Hongkou Ghetto and Shanghai as a whole. We would love for you to share this opportunity with the instructors and students at the Confucius Institute at George Mason University, as well as Chinese teachers in local Confucius Classrooms.
