Subject: 3MT competition for students in PhD programs
Dear Colleagues,
Please encourage your PhD students completing dissertations to enroll themselves in the 3MT competition for this year. Registration opens
Nov. 2 and only the first 50 students will be able to compete. See
https://provost.gmu.edu/academics-and-research/graduate-education/3mt%C2%AE for full details.
Last year, the first-place winner of this university competition was Daniel Shore, a student in psychology. Let’s make sure that CHSS is well represented this year again. This is also a great opportunity for your
dissertation students to hone their skills presenting their work, which they will also need to do for future employers.
What is 3MT®?
3MT® is a research communication competition where PhD students present their doctoral research to a non-specialist audience using only one single visual aid—all in three minutes. This exercise encourages graduate students to think
about their research from an outsider’s perspective, hones their presentation skills, and provides a forum for a cross-disciplinary exchange of exciting ideas and information.
Please distribute as appropriate.
Thanks,
Robert
