The St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia, has a history job opening for the next academic year. Our school is a Jesuit, all-boys private college-preparatory institution founded in 1851 with approximately 900 students and located
in North Philadelphia near the Temple University campus.
Being a private college prep school, our faculty has tremendous academic freedom while also not having to worry about high stakes standardized testing. We do not require educational certifications of our teachers, preferring content area
experts. For example, we recently hired a member of our department who has an ABD from Penn in sociology. We do expect candidates to have thought seriously about/researched pedagogy and prefer that they have some form of teaching experience, even if as a
teaching assistant.
We are open to the field of study of candidates, though there will be a base expectation that the individual could teach from among our core courses of World History, US History and US Government and Politics. Given how tight the history
job market is for tenure-track faculty positions, I think we provide an outstanding option for MA, ABD and PhD recipients.
We are very interested in recruiting diverse candidates for our faculty. We also hope that candidates will bring different perspectives to our community.
