Academics


Spring 2018 Reading Days Cancelled                                                                                                    Now makeup days for classes cancelled due to inclement weather.   For classes canceled on Friday, March 2, the makeup day is Monday, May 7 (no longer a Reading Day). For classes canceled on Wednesday, March 21, the makeup day is Tuesday, May 8 (no longer a Reading Day). Instructors should contact students directly via Mason email or Blackboard regarding any assignment adjustments for the course.

  Undergraduate NEWS:

BIOL 213 changes: For students who need BIOL 213 in fall please sign up for the BIOL 213-007 class with Dr. Hoemann. This class is different from the regular BIOL 213 classes and will be mandatory for our BENG students starting this fall 2018.
MATH 203 section: Students who need MATH 203 in Fall 2018 need to sign up for MATH 203-007. Registration for this section won’t be open until mid-April. Mid-April the recitation will be added for Fridays from 9:30 am – 10:20 am. Please email me for an override. This section is mandatory for Bioengineering students.

CHEM 251 (4 credits) is NOW CHEM 271(3 credits) and its lab CHEM 272 (1 credit)

ENGH 302: Students have to take a Literature Elective first before taking ENGH 302! We allow for Natural Science section and Multidisciplinary sections.

[EXTENDED DEADLINE]   Fall 2018 Multidisciplinary Senior Design | Deadline: Friday, April 13

Volgenau School of Engineering will be offering the first multidisciplinary section for senior design in Fall 2018.  Students from Bio, Civil, Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering will partner to attack problems that span their respective disciplines.  Students must apply by Friday April 6th to be considered for the section. Notification to accepted applicants should occur promptly so that these students can register for the rest of their fall classes with certainty. The section will meet on Fridays from 11:30am to 2:15pm.  Students that start the multidisciplinary section in Fall 2018 will be required to register for the multidisciplinary section in Spring 2019 also. Scholarship awards range from $500 - $10,000
Graduating high school seniors, undergraduate students and graduate students, who intend to or are currently pursuing a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) degree at an accredited college/university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico, are encouraged to apply for these merit-based scholarships. Students must have an overall minimum 3.0 GPA and must be of Hispanic descent or demonstrate strong leadership or service within the Hispanic community.

Scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the 30th HENAAC Conference, from October 18 – 21, 2018, in Pasadena, CA. Great Minds in STEM subsidizes over $850 in registration, travel and housing for the Scholars to attend this conference, where they will meet their sponsors, be awarded their scholarship and formally recognized as new members of the GMiS Scholars Society.

[FLYER]  Scholarship Fulbright US Student Program competition| Deadline: Wednesday, July 1

Grants are available for students to conduct independent research or serve as an English Teaching Assistant abroad for up to one year. U.S. citizenship is required. Interested candidates and those who wish to learn more are invited to attend an information session.  A full schedule of upcoming sessions is attached.  This year for the first time, Fulbright information sessions will be offered in the form of live webinars in addition to in-person sessions held on campus.

Prospective applicants must: (1) attend an information session and (2) thoroughly review the Fulbright U.S. Student Program website us.fulbrightonline.org prior to booking an appointment to discuss their candidacy with the Director of Graduate Fellowships. In order to receive university endorsement of their application, Mason-affiliated applicants must register their application and meet with Dr. Agoston by July 1, 2018, and subsequently meet a campus deadline of September 15, 2018, at 11:59pm.
