UNC-CH
Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Study of the American South
by Malinda Lowery
The UNC-Chapel Hill Center for the Study of the American South invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in the history, culture, or society of the American South. The award includes a salary of $50,000 and health insurance, plus a research
and travel fund. The fellow will have an affiliation with UNC’s Department of American Studies. The fellowship will support outstanding junior scholars as they revise book-length manuscripts on topics related to the South.
The Center especially welcomes proposals that will utilize the special collections of the UNC-CH Library or other research collections of the Triangle area, and that engage issues of contemporary relevance to the region, from any affiliated discipline. Public-facing
and community-engaged work is encouraged. In addition to working on their own project, the fellow will also teach one course in Southern Studies.
Applicants must have received the PhD prior to the beginning of the fellowship year and no more than four years should have lapsed before the year begins. Scholars who have received tenure or published a previous scholarly book are not eligible. The CSAS Fellowship
is a residential award, so Fellows are expected to reside within the Chapel Hill area and take an active part in the intellectual life of the Center.
The deadline is March 13, 2018.
