_{Hillwood Museum offers an unpaid, flexible schedule internship starting Jan/Feb 2018, 6 to 12 hours per week, Tuesday-Thursday. In coordination with your undergraduate or graduate program, the internship can be taken for course credit, or can be completed independent of your coursework. Unpaid internships at Hillwood, Estate, Museum & Gardens provide institutional training to students with a demonstrated interest in a museum career. The publications intern with be exposed to the contracting, illustration, rights, and the final research and outlining phases of museum publications, with a focused project on organizing historical photography and image checklists for a forthcoming American history and biography publication. Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to interact with the Executive Director and activities involving museum development. The internship offers opportunities to use specialty museum databases, shadow meetings in the areas of exhibitions-publications, and to have informational interviews in different specialties in museum work. Previous interns have reported a better understanding of museum institutional culture including the functions of various departments, and a better defined educational and career path. The internship supervisor is the Curator of American Material Culture and Director of Collections. Undergraduate and graduate students in American history, art history, material culture, American studies, museum studies, gender studies, journalism, library science, and decorative arts are strongly encouraged to apply with a resume and cover letter stating how the internship interests them, their relevant coursework, and a general overview of their work & volunteer related, or different from museum work.
