I-SEC Students:
The Spring 2018 schedule of classes is now viewable on PatriotWeb. Registration will begin on
November 7th. To determine your individual registration time, please check
PatriotWeb
under "Registration Status and Time Ticket, Override Notification, Wait List Position". We encourage you to check the schedule of classes frequently on PatriotWeb as the schedule may change. Also, courses without an assigned instructor
are not likely to be, but may be, offered in the upcoming semester.
Please make a note the following information:
-
Before registration begins, you will be issued an override to add PUBP 504,
PUBP 505, and/or PUBP 506 if you have not taken these courses already. There is a note on PatriotWeb instructing you to contact me, but this is mainly for those outside I-SEC who want to try to get into these courses. Anyone receiving this message
will receive pre-authorization to add these courses if needed.
-
For second-year students, please remember I-SEC core courses have been renumbered. Grand Strategy has changed from PUBP 771 to
PUBP 504. Ethics and the Use of Force has changed from PUBP 738 to PUBP 506.
If you took these courses with the original numbers, do not retake them under the new numbers.
·
For our third-year part-timers, PUBP 505 was listed in Spring 2016 as ‘PUBP 710 - Prac & Thry Pub Pol for Secur’. If you took that course in Spring 2016, do not take PUBP 505.
-
PUBP 710 is a general elective number that can be taken multiple times with different topics. Different PUBP 710 courses fall into different I-SEC area requirements (aka buckets). Please let me know if you have questions about this.
-
PUBP 511, PUAD 511, and GOVT 511 are all equivalent options. To enroll in these courses, students must first pass a screening exam. Information about this is at
http://schar.gmu.edu/511.
-
Attached to this email is a list of course options with the relevant core courses and area requirement courses (aka ‘buckets’) broken out.
-
Students are encouraged to review the options under the BIOD, GOVT, ITRN, PUAD, and PUBP headings for other elective choices. Students should consult with an advisor (that’s me!) with any questions about elective eligibility.
-
Course syllabi will be posted on the
Schar School syllabi page as they become available. If a syllabus is not yet posted, please review previous semesters' syllabi to get an idea of class requirements or
contact the teaching faculty directly to inquire.
-
All non-Schar courses will have to be pre-approved by your academic advisor (that’s me!) before registering.
-
The complete academic calendar and billing dates can be found on the
Registrar's website.
Please note the following important wait list procedures:
·
Students will be sent e-mails (to their Mason e-mail accounts) when waitlist overrides are issued. Students will not be able to waitlist for a course if the following apply:
-
They are already registered for another section of the same course.
-
They are already on a waitlist for another section of the same course
·

Registrar's Waitlist Information page.
