Coordinating Council for Women in History (CCWH) - Dissertation Fellowships

Deadline: 5/15/2017

Fellowships support doctoral candidates at a crucial stage of research or in the final year of writing. The fellowships are for one year.

CCWH/Berks Graduate Student Fellowship for students completing a dissertation in any field of history in a history department at a US institution.

Ida B. Wells Graduate Student Fellowship for students completing a historical dissertation that interrogates race and gender, though not necessarily in a history department. Applicants must be CCWH members.

General Eligibility:

  • Be enrolled in a doctoral program at a U.S. institution.
  • Have passed to ABD status by the time of application.
  • Applicants can only apply for one CCWH sponsored graduate student grant each year.

Award amount: $1,000.


Coordinating Council for Women in History (CCWH) - Catherine Prelinger Dissertation & Postdoctoral Fellowship for Women

Deadline: 5/15/2017

Fellowships support female scholars whose academic path has not followed the traditional path of uninterrupted study. Applicants should be engaged in scholarship that is historical in nature, although the degree may be in related fields, and describe a project that will further enhance women’s roles in history. The fellowship is for one year.


  • Applicant must hold either ABD status or the PhD at the time of application.
  • Applications from independent and non-academic scholars are encouraged.

Award amount: $20,000.

Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History - Short-Term Travel Fellowship

Deadline: 5/15/2017

Fellowships support research in the field of American history at archives in New York City. The fellowship offers support for one year.

Eligibility: Doctoral candidates are eligible. 

Award amount: $3,000.
