Dear Professor,

The Naval History and Heritage Command offers a number of incentives for research and writing U.S. naval history. Your doctoral degree students planning dissertations related to the naval history of the United States could be eligible for the Admiral John D. Hayes predoctoral fellowship, while doctoral as well as master’s degree students may be interested in the Rear Admiral Ernest M. Eller Graduate Research Grant for graduate students researching and writing U.S. naval history in fulfillment of the requirements of a master’s or doctoral degree. Your faculty might consider applying for the Vice Admiral Edwin B. Hooper Research Grant for established scholars researching and writing a book or article on U.S. naval history. The grants are restricted to U.S. citizens and are competitive. They are intended to help defray the costs of travel, living expenses, and document duplication related to the research process.

More information and application forms are available at https://www.history.navy.mil/get-involved/grants-and-fellowships.html.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Crawford
