SWANA's International Solid Waste Design Competition (SWDC) is a student team competition to solve a "real world" problem faced by solid waste professionals. The competition aims at providing design experience for students interested in pursuing an education and/or career in solid waste management. The 2016 competition drew a sizable audience during WASTECON(r) as attendees watched the LIVE presentations. University of Texas at Arlington received the first place prize followed by Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico in second and Florida State University & Florida A&M University in third. To make next year's competition even more exciting, we need your assistance in spreading the word to university programs and students who qualify to compete in the next competition at WASTECON(r) 2017 co-located with the International Solid Waste Association's World Congress in Baltimore, MD. Do you know a student or university program (perhaps from your alma mater) who might want to compete in next year's competition? If so, please encourage them to fill out the application<http://SWANA.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT01OTkwODk2JnA9MSZ1PTEwMDkzMTIyNjImbGk9Mzg1NDEwNTY/index.html> by November 18, 2016 and to visit the WASTECON 2017 Student Design<http://SWANA.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT01OTkwODk2JnA9MSZ1PTEwMDkzMTIyNjImbGk9Mzg1NDEwNTc/index.html> page for more details. You can find more information at https://swana.org/Membership/MembershipInformation/YoungProfessionals/swdc We are in the process of organizing the problem statement for WasteCon 2017, which will be held September 25-27, 2017 in Baltimore, MD, and will be co-located with the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress. The next project will be on the cost/benefit of recycling. The enrollment and project statement should be on our website by mid October 2016.
