Subject: LC WHGS Discussion Group -- Next Meeting Thursday, October 6

Dear Discussion Group Member:

The next meeting of the Library of Congress Women's History and Gender Studies Discussion Group will be next Thursday, October 6, in room LJ G-07 (Jefferson Building) from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Please join us and feel free to bring your lunch and your friends.

We will spend the first 10 minutes or so on introductions, research updates from returning members, and quick research guidance on new topics from those in attendance.

We will then turn the floor over to Meg Metcalf, the Women's, Gender, and LGBTQ+ Studies Librarian at the Library of Congress. Meg will present her recent America Reads exhibit gallery talk, "Between the Waves: Reconstructing Feminist Narratives at the Library of Congress." This talk focuses on problematizing the metaphor of feminist waves, as well as the homogenization of American women's movements in popular historical narratives. After the discussion wraps up, anyone who is interested is welcome to join us for a walk around the America Reads exhibit.

The Women's History Discussion Group meets on the first Thursday of each month from 12:30-1:30 pm. If you have questions about the discussion group, feel free to write to us at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. We hope to see you at the next meeting on October 6, and please tell others who might be interested.

Sincerely,

Meg Metcalf, Main Reading Room
Mary Champagne, Main Reading Room
