Dear Students,

If you are planning to graduate at the end of this semester, please pay extra attention to this message.

This email is to clarify the seminar attendance requirement rules between the old system and the new system. Spring 2016 is the transitioning semester from the seminar requirement old system to the new system. Students graduating at Spring 2016 can choose whether they want to adopt the old system, or to go with the new system. If you are choosing the old system, you will need to attend minimum of ten (10) seminars in order to meet the degree requirement. These ten seminars could include the MS Scholarly Paper presentations, MS Thesis presentations, PhD Dissertation Defenses, PhD Seminars, ECE Departmental Seminars, and ECE Distinguished Seminars. If you are to choose the new system, minimum of six (6) seminar attendances are required. However, the MS Scholarly Paper presentations and MS Thesis presentations are excluded from the list. The MS Scholarly Paper/MS Thesis presentation attendances will NOT be counted toward the new system.

For those who plan to graduate this semester but misunderstood the new system, and didn't attend the proper six seminars, the following list of seminars will be the only seminars accepted to increase your seminar attendance numbers to minimum of ten before end of this semester. This exception is for Spring 2016 semester only.

1. any of the seminars currently posted on ECE website

2. CS Department seminars 

3. Bioengineering Department seminars

4. If you attend other seminars within the Volgenau School of Engineering, a departmental approval is required before we count them toward your degree requirement.

After Spring 2016 semester, the ECE Department will fully adopt the new system. Thus, no MS Scholarly Paper presentation and MS These presentation attendance will be counted toward your seminar requirement starting Fall 2016 semester and onward.
