INDUSTRY TIP
Technology: Programmers should be cataloging the work they do on their own time. Employers want to see that their potential employees truly enjoy what they do and can showcase the projects they have completed. Using a site like github.com<https://gmu-csm.symplicity.com/track/8de346641e9a2bc3b4a536bbd2e67475/1510039956/realurl=http:/github.com/> allows you to show and share your code with employers that may want to hire you.
Engineering: It is important to develop a list of target companies when you are beginning your job or internship search, but make sure that you pay attention to how geography may affect the number of companies that fit your interests. For example, are you interested in working with semiconductor design? Many of those companies (like Intel or Texas Instrument) are on the west coast. Interested in applying your skills with the Federal Government or Defense Contractors? If the answer is yes, then you will have a lot of options to choose from (such as Raytheon or the Patent and Trademark Office.) If you need help expanding your list of companies, consider using LinkedIn, the Book of List, or CareerShift, a new resource the library recently purchased.
