Join the NMAAHC in supporting students to create successful National History Day projects!

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is embarking on a pilot program focused on helping student participants (6th -12th grade) of National History Day improve their projects and enhance their skills as budding historians. We are looking for upper-level undergraduates, graduates, and post-graduates to provide guidance on research and presentation of NHD projects for students nationwide we are seeking reviewers for two types of review sessions:  face-to-face reviews (F2F Reviews) and virtual reviews (E-Reviews).  Reviews will be conducted along the rules and judging criteria of National History Day and will seek to provide students with individualized comments that will strengthen students’ thesis, arguments, research and presentations.

F2F Review Session

The face-to-face review or, F2F Review Sessions, will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at a downtown DC location on or close to the SI campus.   Reviewers will conduct four to six project reviews with an individual student or a small group students.

Reviewers will need to attend a brief training session the morning of February 20th from 9am-10am.  The student review sessions will begin at 10am.  NMAAHC will provide lunch for reviewers at the conclusion of the student review sessions during which time museum staff will debrief with the reviewers.

E-Review Session

These electronic review sessions (or E-Reviews) will take place over a three-week period from March 12-March 31, 2016.  Students will submit NHD projects (images, papers or videos) via email throughout the three-week period. Each reviewer will receive student NHD project submissions via email from NMAAHC at regular times throughout the E-Review period.  Reviews are to be completed offsite and returned to NMAAHC via email within five to seven days.

Reviewers are asked to attend a mandatory training session for on Saturday, March 19, 2016; 10am-12pm.  A light lunch will be provided during the training session.
