“The Input of BioMolecular Biobanking to Data Analytics and Medical Research”

Date: 7 January 2016

Time: 9:00 - 16:30

Venue: University College Cork, Ireland

On 7 January 2016, Biobanking and BioMolecular Resources Research Infrastructure – European Research Infrastructure Consortium (BBMRI-ERIC) and Insight Centre for Data Analytics will host a seminar in Cork with the aim to demonstrate how Ireland could benefit from participating in one of the largest health infrastructures in Europe, BBMRI-ERIC, and more generally to update the research community on the contribution of BBMRI-ERIC to medical research.

BBMRI-ERIC primarily aims at establishing, operating, and developing a pan-European distributed research infrastructure of biobanks and biomolecular resources to facilitate access to biological resources as well as biomedical facilities and support high-quality biomolecular and medical research. Biological tissues and associated data are necessary to understanding the causes of disease and developing new drugs and treatments. Likewise, data serves to analyse the influence of environment and lifestyle factors on health, constituting a basis for disease prevention programmes and the improvement of public health.

Insight Centre for Data Analytics undertakes high impact research in data analytics that has significant impact on industry and society by enabling better decision making. The application of data analytics on health data can bring many benefits to healthcare.

The seminar will bring biobanking, industry, academia, legal, and data analytics representatives together to discuss the contributions of their respective sectors to the improvement of healthcare, from prevention to treatment and drug development. The central role of biobanks in providing resources for health research will be highlighted, and the speakers will explore how participating in BBMRI-ERIC would enhance Ireland’s biobanks and its contribution to medical research.

The draft agenda will be available soon. The registration will be open through ISC website: http://www.iscintelligence.com/event.php?id=297
